Personal Profile I am a fund raiser and children’s author, writing under my full-name, Carol Ann Martin and most recently published by Omnibus/Scholastic and Penguin Australia. Because my work is centred very much around children, I have for many years had a special concern for those children who do not enjoy the kind of life that most Australian kids do. In particular, I care about children who suffer in wars. They are completely innocent of the causes, and don’t really understand what’s happening, yet so often they suffer the most.
For that reason, about ten years ago, I began running a market stall to raise funds for these kids. I started at the former Cygnet Market in Loongana Park, as well as going every year to the Middleton Country Show. I have been with the current Cygnet Country Market ever since its inception and am proud and happy to have shared in its development and growth into the thriving, lively and very popular market it is today. The money I make from Hen-hugs and Ticklefeathers goes to organisations such as War Child, UNICEF and Mahboba’s Promise.
Because of my busy writing schedule and because I hand-make most of the items for my stall, I only attend the market once a month, on the first Sunday.
